Suddenly, one of the three comes up with the idea: 'Dear colleagues... what if we merge the world's best-selling niche perfume and designer perfume? I mean Aventus and Sauvage, of course': a nuclear explosion! So much so that I would rather call it Exploded than Explorer. I even wanted to recreate the experiment so beautifully: a spray of Aventus and one of Sauvage on the same strip, result? Him. So we are talking about a spectacular and very successful hit, which has conquered a permanent place in my weekly rotation and which I now consider indispensable. Not a clone of Aventus, but a simplification of it, a way to make it more mass-market: unpretentious and without depth, but... boy! Of a versatility and pleasantness that has few comparisons. From King Creed, it takes the fruity, sparkling sparkle of the top notes, all orchestrated around bergamot, and reinterprets the smoky body notes with a successful and simple combination of leather, akigalawood and vetiver. From the "douchebag perfume", Dior Sauvage instead brings back the metallic and ambery notes of ambroxan, but with less intrusion, less exaggeration, accompanied by very recognizable fresh spices: pink pepper and sage. Strongly absent are the sweet background notes of Aventus, in particular the vanilla base that creates it en plein of its complexity and character. But on the other hand, as said before, Explorer does not want to be a niche perfume and does not want to show itself complex; it prefers to relax in its stability, confident in itself and its effect. It has a good trail, but not such a good longevity: it stands out, attracts attention and compliments (one of the fragrances that has given me the most satisfaction in this sense), but it needs a boost after three hours (a carafe to take with you is recommended). As said, extremely versatile: suitable for any occasion, any season and any age. Perhaps, given its low base and stabilizing sweet notes, it is less performing and less useful in the middle of winter, when temperatures are colder. What more can be added? Honor and glory to Montblanc! Thunderous applause and standing ovation!

The bergamot/citrus in the opening is somewhat overpowering, but after half an hour it is better balanced.
